What is Die Cutting?
Die Cutting is the process that cuts individual stickers out of a master sheet of material. I explained in an article here that stickers are not printed one at a time, rather multiple stickers are printed on a sheet. Once they are printed, the individually stickers need to be cut out to their finished shape.
A steel rule blade is bent into the desired shape and fixed to a wood backer board. The die is then pressed against the sheet of vinyl and the individual sticker shapes are cut out.
The die cut machine works as a cookie cutter in forming a stamping tool to stamp the desired shape.
The rubber blocks are inserted next to the steel rule to ensure that the scrap from the sheets can be ejected successfully during high-speed die cutting.
